Be Like Water: A Lesson in Flow and Flexibility

Last night, a courageous group of individuals gathered under the stars for our second aquatic sound bath event at Northstar Swim Club, and it turned out to be an evening full of unexpected surprises and flow—quite literally! Just as water moves effortlessly around obstacles, we, too, had to embrace a spirit of flexibility and adaptability as the night unfolded in a way we hadn’t anticipated.

The weather was clear, with no rain in sight on any radar. Yet, as fate would have it, lightning and thunder began their unexpected surprise show just as everyone was setting up their floats, eager to jump into the pool. Moments before we were about to begin the sound bath, the sky opened up, and rain poured down, adding its own rhythm to our symphony of sound bowls.

What could have been a reason to cancel or worry actually became an opportunity for connection. We all squeezed together under the pavilion, turning it into a cozy, impromptu nest. It felt like one of those childhood sleepovers, creating an atmosphere that is somehow both exciting and soothing. The laughter, the huddling together—these spontaneous moments made the night all the more intimate and special.

“Water teaches us to bend, not break—flowing around life’s obstacles with ease and grace.”

Though we couldn’t float in the pool as planned, our connection with water remained strong. Water has a consciousness; it’s a living energy with cleansing and healing properties that go beyond its physical form. Even without floating on its surface, we were still deeply immersed in its essence, feeling its presence in every raindrop that fell. I left the event feeling clearer, more joyful, and grateful in a way that I hadn’t anticipated.

As someone who hosts events, you often find yourself silently praying for perfect weather. Yet, last night taught me something beautiful about surrendering to what is and embracing it fully. The rain became an integral part of our sound bath, a natural partner in our symphony. It played along with our sound bowls, adding a layer of magic that I couldn’t have orchestrated if I tried. The entire experience felt so much more intentional and profound because of it.

I am incredibly grateful to everyone who showed up, who trusted the process, and who allowed themselves to be present in the moment. Your willingness to adapt and embrace the unexpected with us made all the difference. It reminded me that sometimes, the best experiences aren’t the ones that go according to plan, but those that surprise us, encourage us to grow, and bring us closer together.

Thank you for being part of this magical night. Until next time, let’s keep flowing with whatever comes our way, just like the water.

Infinite love,
Anna Zahn

What Water Teaches Us

Water isn’t just something we drink or swim in—it’s a living, breathing energy that has so much to teach us if we’re open to listening. On a spiritual and energetic level, water represents some pretty deep and powerful concepts:

  1. Flow and Flexibility: Think of water as your personal life coach, always reminding you to go with the flow. It’s a master at moving with life’s currents, showing us how to embrace change and adapt without losing ourselves in the process. Water doesn’t resist; it just finds another path. It teaches us to bend rather than break, to weave around obstacles with a sense of ease and grace.
  2. Emotional Depth and Healing: Water has this uncanny ability to mirror our emotions. It can be still and clear one moment, then wild and churning the next, much like our emotional landscape. Engaging with water is like tapping into the deeper parts of our subconscious. It invites us to feel, release, and heal. Just as a river cleanses its banks, water can help us wash away old emotional gunk, making room for new growth and fresh starts.
  3. Purification and Cleansing: When it comes to letting go of what doesn’t serve us, water is the ultimate ally. It’s the original detox, both physically and spiritually. In many traditions, water is used to cleanse negative energy and release attachments, acting as a reset button for the soul. Think of it as a spiritual shower that washes away the day’s grime and leaves you feeling refreshed and renewed.
  4. Life and Rebirth: Water is the great sustainer—without it, nothing would thrive. It’s often seen as a symbol of life and rebirth, guiding us through the natural cycles of beginning, ending, and beginning again. Water reminds us that life is all about transformation; we’re always in a state of becoming, like a river constantly carving out its path.
  5. Intuition and the Subconscious: Water has a direct line to our intuition and the subconscious mind. It calls us to dive deep, to trust those inner nudges and explore the unseen depths of our inner world. By connecting with water, we’re encouraged to listen more closely to our inner voice, to trust the wisdom that bubbles up from within.
  6. Connection to the Divine and Universal Consciousness: Water is often considered the bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. It flows through everything, connecting us to the divine energy that binds all life together. In many spiritual practices, water is seen as a sacred medium, a way to tap into higher energies, receive messages, and connect with the divine. It’s like having a hotline straight to the universe.

At its core, water embodies flow, adaptability, emotional depth, healing, purification, rebirth, intuition, and divine connection. It’s a gentle yet powerful reminder to move through life with grace, stay connected to our emotions, and dive deep into the well of our spiritual selves.

Water Blessings

  1. Hinduism: In Hindu rituals, water is considered purifying and is often blessed with mantras. One such mantra, the “Gayatri Mantra,” is often chanted over water to purify it before consumption. Another is the “Apas Mantra” from the Rigveda, which is a prayer that venerates the divine qualities of water, asking for its purifying and healing properties.
  2. Christianity: In Christian traditions, water blessings are common in the form of holy water, which is used for purification and protection. The traditional Catholic prayer for blessing water is, “May this, your creation, be to us a sign of your grace; that we may cleanse ourselves of sin, be protected from all evil, and serve you with pure hearts.”
  3. Shinto (Japan): In Shinto practices, water is used in purification rituals known as “Misogi.” During these rituals, practitioners chant prayers to the Kami (spiritual beings or gods) for purification and blessing.
  4. Indigenous Practices: Many Indigenous cultures around the world have deep spiritual practices involving water. For example, Native American tribes often have water ceremonies where they pray to water spirits and ask for the blessings of health, purification, and renewal. The Cherokee, for example, have a ritual known as “Going to Water,” where participants enter the water, often a river, and pray for spiritual cleansing.
  5. Ancient Egyptians: Water played a significant role in ancient Egyptian religion and daily life. The Nile River was considered a source of life and was often used in rituals and blessings. Water from the Nile was sometimes blessed by priests and used in temple rituals to cleanse both physically and spiritually.

“Water has a memory and carries within it our thoughts and prayers. As you take a sip, be conscious of the message you’re sending into your body.”
– Masaru Emoto

While each tradition has its unique form of a water blessing, the common theme is recognizing water as a sacred element that carries the power to heal, cleanse, and protect. These blessings often involve prayers or chants that honor the water, ask for its purity, and request its healing energy.
